Davy vs. Goliath
This image of a redwood tree, badly burned but still growing and spreading oxygen, symbolizes resilience. Despite its scars, it continues to thrive, much like the story of Davy vs. Goliath. Davy triumphs not through brute strength but by staying connected to his source—remaining loving, compassionate, and grateful toward all, whether friend or foe, and taking focused action when needed.
In my life, I strive to embody this same resilience, even in the face of rare bad actors who wield immense resources and influence. These individuals, though challenging, serve an important role: they ignite the fire within me to fight against injustice and corruption. I’ve come to see them as catalysts for growth, pushing me to make a lasting difference.
However, I remind myself that losing compassion for these individuals would be a greater tragedy than any harm they could inflict on me. Their actions often stem from their own pain or trauma. If I were to die by their hand, it would be less tragic than losing my capacity for love and understanding.
I also reflect on those who may feel I’ve wronged them. If misunderstandings have occurred, I apologize sincerely—except in one specific case where legal constraints prevent me from communicating directly with someone involved in a complex situation. Regardless, I trust that time will bring resolution for all parties.
Compassion is Key
We often feel sympathy for those who are physically or mentally disabled but quickly condemn offenders like murderers or thieves. Yet shouldn’t we ask: What pain drives someone to hurt others? What fears or traumas make them act out in harmful ways? Questions like these help us understand that even the most destructive actions are often rooted in fear, anguish, or a lack of love and acceptance.
As Neale Donald Walsch writes in Conversations with God: “No one does anything inappropriate, given their model of the world.” Every action is a logical response based on an individual’s unique experiences and perspective. For example:
Someone might cheat another out of fear of scarcity.
A person might harm others because they are unconscious of the impact their actions have, as Eckhart Tolle describes.
This understanding doesn’t mean excusing harmful behavior but rather addressing its root causes. Hatred only perpetuates harm; instead, we should focus on finding solutions to prevent such actions in the future. Punishment alone rarely solves the problem—rehabilitation and understanding are far more constructive.
Countries like Finland and Norway demonstrate this approach with prisons designed not to punish but to rehabilitate offenders in supportive environments. Similarly, humanity can grow by addressing the fears and traumas that drive destructive behavior through education, inner work, and compassion.
How to Optimize Ourselves
We are shaped by our environment, experiences, and genetics—but we are not bound by them. Our genetic expression (epigenetics) is influenced by our surroundings and choices. The way we interpret reality is based on our past experiences or "programming," but this programming can be changed.
Tools like Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and self-hypnosis allow us to reprogram our subconscious minds. By changing how we perceive reality at a psychological level, we can transform our experiences. On a spiritual level, practices like meditation and the law of attraction also help reshape our lives. For example:
Joe Dispenza has shown how shifting mindset and energy can lead to extraordinary healing.
I experienced my own miraculous recovery on July 18, 2024, which I detail in my book The Insane Asylum: This is Me.
Our beliefs shape our thoughts; thoughts shape emotions; emotions shape how we experience life; and those experiences create our reality. Past traumas can distort this process when triggered by current events. However, sharing those traumas authentically with others can release their hold on us.
Just as the burned redwood overcame its damage to thrive again, we too can heal from our past. Therapists like Marisa Peer use hypnotherapy to guide people through releasing trauma (see her work on YouTube). Letting go of secrets or pain raises our vibration and frees us to grow spiritually and emotionally.
The Bigger Picture
When we share our truths authentically—whether through writing or speaking—we inspire others to do the same. This collective openness fosters healing for individuals and communities alike. My book aims to encourage this kind of authenticity by sharing my own journey openly.
Though my book has faced bans and shadow bans due to its raw honesty, it continues to reach readers who are willing to dig deeper for it. In doing so, it serves as a reminder that even when faced with challenges akin to Davy vs. Goliath, resilience rooted in compassion can overcome anything.
Thank you for these very wise words Chris 🙏
